We created an architecture magazine in a pandemic lockdown, when all the titles in the category closed. We felt the loss of these brands, and our jobs, keenly. Then we sensed an opportunity to do things better – to start from scratch on what a magazine would look like, and how it would work as a business, in the 2020s.
Making content for brands that connects seamlessly with readers has been a big part of our success. Since issue 01, we’ve worked on significant integration and content campaigns across print, digital, events and video for major international and local brands including Atherm, Audi, Blum, Citta, Dulux, Fisher & Paykel, Hyundai, and Resene.
After five years and 30 issues, we realised we could make content with the same sensibility even if it didn't go in the magazine. That's where Here Studio steps in.
We start with the audience – always thinking about what they might want to read, see or listen to. (So much so, that people often don't realise the story they’re reading is a paid piece of content.)
We build deep relationships with our clients and have worked with many of them for close to a decade across two titles and multiple lockdowns. We take time to find out about our clients’ commercial needs and craft responses to suit.
There is very little that we can't do. Our wheelhouse includes but is not limited to design, magazines, photography, video, podcasts, case studies, illustrations, social-media collateral, brand strategies, websites, events and copy. If we haven't done it before, we'll find someone in our network of talented contributors who can.
We don't die in ditches, but we do commit to the original idea and we'll tell you if we don't think something is going to land – then we keep working collaboratively until we find out what works for everyone. We keep things simple, employing small, no-bullshit teams who are the best in the business at what they do.
The Here team has won numerous awards including Best Covid Response at the 2020 MPA Magazine Media Awards, Best Graphic Design at the 2022 and 2023 Voyager Media Awards – not to mention a gold pin for Editorial and Books at the 2021 Best Design Awards.
